The Making Of
Cake Club began one day when Che baked a cake and bought it to work for everyone to share. We all thought it was delicious and wished two things.
That we could bake like our Mums (and Che) can
And that we got to eat cake more often. And so Cake Club was born.
We agreed that we would each take a turn to bake and that we would meet every Monday around 4pm to gorge ourselves on cake and cakey chat
We pledged to each push our personal cake boundaries to stay out of the cake comfort zone by always baking something we had never baked before.
The rest is delicious history.
Except to say that there’s a political side to Cake Club as well the cakey side. The club fits neatly with a conversation we regularly have about traditionally feminine traits and how valuable they are in the workplace.
We don’t mean baking. We mean sharing, collaborating, and helping each other improve ourselves in a non-competitive, inclusive way. Cake Club is about all that sort of stuff too. But only a bit. It’s mostly about cake
